WASHINGTON—In response to the violence at The Ohio State University today, AFT President Randi Weingarten said:
"The Ohio State University is the heart of the city of Columbus and the pride of Ohio; today’s violence tears at the center of the entire community. We are praying for the recovery of all those who were injured.
"As always happens in moments of crisis, public employees sprang into action—from the officers to the first responders to the hospital staff—and limited the harm while providing much-needed reassurance to all those affected. By many accounts, OSU’s student alerts system helped ease the fear and kept students, parents and educators informed.
“In the coming days, educators will work to restore students’ sense of safety, nurses and doctors will continue to heal the injured, and students will work to heal the scars. We stand with them at every step of the way."
Ohio State University Nurses Organization President Jessie Frymyer, who is a registered nurse and a member of the Ohio Nurses Association, said:
“Our nurses at Wexner Medical Center are on the frontlines of providing lifesaving care for the victims of this horrible tragedy, and they stand ready to provide further medical care as needed.
“We stand united with the Ohio State University community, and many of our members are OSU alumni as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
