WASHINGTON—Statement by American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s proposal to double the size of the child care tax credit:

“Hillary's child care plan, which already was the only one that would actually help working and middle-class families, just got better. Today's proposal—expanding the child care tax credit enough to cover three months of care for a 4-year-old—testifies to her lifelong determination to solve real problems that face our country's families and children.

“Her new proposal builds on a comprehensive strategy to aid the whole child—making pre-K universal for 4-year-olds, doubling Head Start, and extending paid leave to all workers who are new parents.

“Unlike Donald Trump—whose tax plans skew benefits to the wealthiest at the expense of working families, and whose maternity-leave proposal seems like a throwback to the 1950s—Hillary Clinton continues to offer thoughtful, concrete solutions for the working families who need them most.”
