For Release:
DETROIT—With a legislative decision coming down to the wire for the Detroit Public Schools, the American Federation of Teachers launched a broadcast and digital advertising campaign this week urging lawmakers to give final approval to the Senate bipartisan plan for a Detroit schools solution.
The ads will air in the following television markets: Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, Flint/Saginaw and Traverse City/Cadillac. Digital versions will be on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
The Senate plan has bipartisan support and backing from business, civic, public and private sectors, the ad says, and offers "a real plan for long-term fiscal stability and academic accountability." By contrast, the ad notes, no legislator from Detroit supports the House version of the bills. The ad urges the state Legislature to pass the Senate legislation "for all of Michigan and for all our kids."
The ad campaign will continue through this week and is paid for by the American Federation of Teachers.
